Tags allow you to add 'common attributes' to Contacts, Events, Boats, Products and other items. This can be really useful for filtering and segmenting Contacts for example.
Tags can be added 'on the fly' in various parts of SCM but they can be updated, managed or deleted from this settings section.

Tags for Contacts
Tags are best used for adding attributes that are common to more than one person, e.g. preferences
By default, Tags can only be seen and updated by admin users. If you want Contacts or Members to be able to select or deselect Tags directly you need to check the 'Show tag in front-ends / websites' box when adding or editing a tag.
If you group tags together you only need to set this for the parent tag.
