Questions

Step 2 of the process is to add questions to the polling group.

You can add one or more Questions to a polling. The number and type of questions will depend on whether you are creating a Vote, Poll, Survey or Quiz although there are no specific restrictions.

There are 3 main question styles with some additional variations.

  • Vote - a question with default answer of Agree, Disagree, Abstain. You can replace the default answers with your own multiple choice options.
  • Rating - choose from 3 rating bands (3, 5 and 10). You can define the general meanings of the scores.
  • Text - a question which can be answered in a text area.

To add a Question, click the 'Add Question' button and then complete the form as described below.

Name and Description

Enter the Question in the name box and add more detail (if required) in the description box

Question Style

Choose a question style. There are 3 question styles with some additional variations.

  • Vote - a question with default answer of Agree, Disagree, Abstain. You can replace the default answers with your own multiple choice options. (Note: you will need to save the question and then edit the question to change default options)
  • Rating - choose from 3 rating bands (3, 5 and 9). You can define the general meanings of the scores.
  • Text - a question which can be answered in a free text area.

Number of votes

Enter the number of votes that each user can use on this question.  For example if the question is a simple yes/no type question then only 1 vote should be allowed as you only want the user to vote yes, no or abstain.  However if you have a question with multiple options you can set the number of votes appropriately.

Secret Ballot

You can make a question into a secret ballot if appropriate. This is for use with Votes where the choice needs to be kept secret whilst recording that the person has used their vote. If this box is ticked the system will not record who voted for which option.

NB: When enabled, you will not be able to easily remove votes as there will be no connection between who voted and which option they voted for. If secret ballot is selected and using a question with multiple options there is no way to stop users voting for the same option twice.

Once you have completed each section, click the 'Save' button.  This will return you to the group page for the poll where you see the question(s) in the group, the answer options associated with each question, and the associated question description.  You can also add further questions if required or change the default questions options.

Note:  If you have more than one question in the group you can use the 'up and down arrow' symbol next to the question title to change the order of the questions.  Simple click and hold on the symbol and move the question up or down to the desired position.

To change the default options for a question click on the question title and this will take you to the question page.

The default options are shown.

To change the options click on the Add Option button or Add Option link in the text.

This will delete all of the default options and display the options page as shown in the screen shot below.

Enter the option in the name field and add a description is required.  Then click save.
