The Membership module works in conjunction with the Contacts module. It is important to note that all Members will be Contacts but not all Contacts are necessarily Members.
Membership can always be managed via the admin pages but you can also enable on-line applications and renewals via the website / portal.
Before you can add or renew Memberships you need to have setup at least one Membership Type and one Period and added joining and/or membership fees for each. See the Membership Setup section for instructions.
